Founded in 1894, St. Augustine’s Primary School has a long and proud history of educating children from the Yarraville Parish and surrounding areas.
We believe that the primary education years are the most vital period in a student's life. It is during this time that a strong educational foundation can be laid, on which children can build their future learning. St. Augustine’s staff are committed to providing a challenging and enriching educational experience for the children of Yarraville. We believe our school is a secure and stimulating environment in which children are given the opportunity to develop their natural enthusiasm for learning. St. Augustine’s is a place where students, teachers, and parents actively work together to share the teachings of Jesus and foster a vibrant school community.
The school currently comprises eight classrooms, with additional rooms dedicated to the Library, Music/Drama, STEM, Italian, and Art. We also make use of the following spaces to extend the learning opportunities offered: an assembly area, a large hall, a commercial kitchen space, a parish church, and local parklands. The school play spaces are regularly maintained through targeted maintenance, working bees, general cleaning, painting projects, and repairs. An ongoing building improvement plan is in place to improve play areas, toilets, and learning spaces.
In addition to our curricular activities, our children participate in a range of extracurricular activities designed to enhance the school experience, such as inter-school sports, school camps, dress-up days, fun days, and excursions. We encourage parents to attend many of these events.
Our Outside School Hours Care Program, OSHC (OSHClub), has been a significant support for many of our families as life’s pressures have increased.
Parent participation is seen as essential to children’s education, with opportunities for involvement including information evenings, social gatherings, the School Advisory Council, the Parents' Committee, classroom assistance, excursion helpers, and attending displays, shows, or performances. We benefit from the large number of nationalities represented within our school and celebrate the diversity they bring to our community. We value parent feedback and work hard to ensure communications are managed in a respectful and productive manner.
