At St. Augustine’s, we embrace and celebrate the rich culture of our Italian community through our Italian language program, offered to all students from Prep to Year 6 throughout the entire school year. The program is aligned with the Victorian Curriculum F-10 Version 2. and provides students with engaging opportunities to develop their skills in speaking, listening, reading, viewing, and writing in Italian.
Through songs, games, stories, conversations, role play, cultural experiences, and creative activities, students build confidence using Italian in meaningful and authentic ways. Students explore Italian traditions, celebrations, food, geography, and everyday life while developing intercultural understanding and an appreciation of diversity.
Students also engage in creative animation and technology projects that allow them to apply their Italian language skills in innovative ways. These projects may include creating digital stories, animations, interactive presentations, videos, coding activities, and multimedia projects connected to classroom topics and Italian culture. Technology is integrated to support collaboration, creativity, communication, and student engagement.
Throughout their Italian learning journey, students participate in a variety of exciting real-life experiences and whole-school events. These opportunities may include performing Italian items in the bi-annual School Concert and the annual Christmas Carols, participating in competitions, celebrating Italian Day, and enjoying hands-on cultural activities such as pizza and pasta making and, of course, any opportunity to enjoy some gelati!
